| THE END OF THE VENICE'S REPUBLIC: VENICE CONQUERED |
 The passage of the French army through those regions, determined the conquest of important towns (Verona, Padova, Vicenza) and of regions that were on the edge of the lagoon ( Marghera, Brondolo), surrounding the town. The reactions of people to the advance of the Bonapartist army were different: in the dry land towns occupied by the French, a part of the nobility and of the middle class, imitating the revolts of the Revolution of 1789, tried to get away from the Venetian government, creating some government opposed to the Serenissima. On the contrary, the people that were fed up with the impositions inflicted by the French soldiers, remained faithful to the Venetian State. |
